Architectural film

What we are actually installing.

Architectural film is a thick, pressure-sensitive vinyl made for building surfaces. It bonds to the surface you already own and gives it a new finish: wood, stone, metal, leather, fabric or solid color. Same structure, new skin.

Thickness6 to 12 mil including adhesive, so it fits elevator doors, landings and anywhere clearance is tight
Goes overFinished wood, laminate, painted MDF, gypsum board, aluminum, stainless, glass and most rigid plastics
LifespanUp to 12 years indoors under manufacturer warranty. Exterior-grade films for storefronts, columns and mullions
Fire ratingMost 3M DI-NOC and Bodaq series test Class A under ASTM E84 (flame spread 0–25, smoke 0–450). Reports provided per submittal
ResistanceHeat, moisture, abrasion and scuffs. A damaged panel is replaced on its own, not the whole run
CleaningMild detergent, warm water and a soft cloth. No abrasive pads, bleach or solvents
Install conditionsDry-applied at 65–85°F on a clean, scuffed, alcohol-wiped surface. Hardware removed and reinstalled by us
SustainabilityNo tear-out, no dumpsters. Cuts renovation waste and can contribute to LEED credits

FAQ

Questions we get on every walkthrough.

What is architectural film?

A thick, textured vinyl made for interiors and building surfaces. 3M DI-NOC and Bodaq films look and feel like wood, stone, metal or fabric and bond permanently to the surface underneath.

How is it applied?

Dry application. The surface is cleaned, degreased and lightly scuffed if glossy, hardware comes off, the film is squeegeed on and heat-set around edges and curves, then hardware goes back on. No adhesives mixed on site, no odor, no cure time before the room is used.

What can you wrap over?

Finished wood, laminate, thermofoil, painted MDF, gypsum board, aluminum, stainless, glass and most rigid plastics. Peeling laminate and water-damaged substrates get repaired first or excluded in writing.

Where is it typically used?

Elevator cabs and landings, hotel and office doors, walls, columns and ceilings, reception desks and casework, kitchens and vanities, storefronts and building entrances.

Can it go outside?

Standard films are made for interiors. Exterior-grade films rated for UV and weather are used on storefronts, columns, mullions and elevator entrances. Expect a shorter lifespan outdoors than the 12-year interior warranty.

How long does it last?

DI-NOC carries a manufacturer warranty of up to 12 years on interior surfaces, and exterior-rated films are available for storefronts and facades. Our workmanship warranty covers lifting and edge failure for 3 years.

Is it fire-rated?

Most 3M DI-NOC and Bodaq series are Class A under ASTM E84, and the rating applies to the film on its substrate, so we provide the test report showing flame spread and smoke indexes for your submittal. Labeled fire doors fall under NFPA 80: we wrap those only with written approval from the door manufacturer or listing lab and your inspector, otherwise they are excluded in writing.

How thick is the film?

6 to 12 mil including the adhesive. That is why it works on elevator doors, landings and anywhere clearance is limited.

How do we clean it?

Mild detergent, warm water and a soft cloth or sponge. No abrasive pads, bleach, degreasers, steam or solvents.

What if a panel gets damaged?

That panel is replaced on its own. The film peels back clean and the surface underneath is untouched, so a scratched door or a dented elevator panel never means redoing the whole run.

Is it an eco-friendly option?

Yes. Nothing is torn out, nothing goes to a dumpster and the surface underneath stays in service. Refinishing instead of replacing cuts renovation waste and can contribute to LEED credits on commercial projects.

Can I install it myself?

The film is sold as DIY, but edges, corners, inside radii and heat-forming are where most failures start. Our crews are factory-trained and the install carries our workmanship warranty.

Which brand is best?

It depends on the finish, the surface and whether it goes outside. We install 3M DI-NOC, Bodaq, Reatec, Belbien, Benif and Renuva and pick by pattern, fire rating and exposure, not by brand loyalty.

Do you work after hours?

Yes. Most commercial installs happen nights and weekends so the business never closes.

Do you travel outside San Diego?

Our base is El Cajon and we cover San Diego County. Larger commercial projects elsewhere in Southern California are quoted case by case. Minimum purchase order of $1,200 on mobile jobs.

The finish is tired. Wrap it.
